5 Tips To Spice Up Your Workplace And Become More Productive

Great post. In addition to adding things to inspire us to do something different, we can also help ourselves by making physical space for the things we want to do. ex. I took the TV out of my spare room and set up an “art” corner…. now what will I be doing instead of watching the box!:)

Road to Happiness

We’ve all heard the words: home is where the heart is.

However for most of us, home has become a trap. A comfort trap, someplace we look forward to everyday simply to do nothing.

For those of us eager for change in our loves, this has become a huge problem. We no longer look around our rooms for inspiration or motivation, as we should. Instead, it’s become a daily reminder that today will be just the same as yesterday.

And if we don’t change the environment we live in, how can we hope to change at all?

But how do we turn out workplace into an inspiration, a playground for ideas to blossom from? A place for our inner child to go crazy and let loose?

The good news is, it’s an easy and fun change.

Tip #1 – Add Something Different

It’s been a while since something different found…

Professional self-isolators

I call on all writers to use their talent as alchemists of words to send out inspiring messages to the newly cocooned self-isolators, the people who normally function in full daylight and thrive off the company of others.

Writers are naturally gifted in the act of self-isolating. We hide away from bright lights and crowds in favour of dimly lit rooms with the company of a furry friend. But now in times of great challenges, our superpowers are needed.

writers are natural self-isolators
Writers enjoy their own company

I call on all writers to use their talent as alchemists of words to send out inspiring messages to the newly cocooned self-isolators, the people who normally function in full daylight and thrive off the company of others. They will need all the moral support they can get as they face the same four walls for 14 days to potentially eternity.

Just because behaving like hermits comes naturally to us, the current outbreak and upheaval to life as we know it will put a strain on a lot of families and couples. Support them through your pearls of wisdom on instagram like never before, or even pull your finger out and get your book published on amazon to brighten up someone’s day. Or write an inspiring article on that blog site you are ignoring and leaving to fester with the spiders and virtual dust-bytes!

You could even share your insights with friends and loved ones helping them get through the day in their own company. Some of them may not have spent a lot of time with themselves recently. Show them the way. Be their guide to self-love or at least self-tolerance. Show them a nice place to walk, a fun book to read or delicious recipes to get lost in. Best of all, share tips on self-care. As a follower on my site you will not fall short on this topic.

I have not always been a pro at self-care. It took a lot of time to fully understand the effects of stress and burnout when working from home. It’s not all kittens and cushions. There are a lot of temptations, distractions and tasty stuff in the fridge… Not to mention my own personal achilles heel of not breaking off from work, not switching into “home time” mode – what for, you’ve been at home all day?!

If you’re stuck remember the three top self-care tips for deskbound writers and now the multitude of extra homeworkers:

importance of staying hydrated
  1. Stay hydrated
  2. Keep moving
  3. Take breaks

Until then, all you new remote workers, look to the writers, the pro self-isolators for inspiration and guidance. Use this time as an opportunity for inner reflection, growth and time to develop new skills. Periods of hardship often provide us with fertile soil for renewal and enlightenment that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. Find clarity. Enjoy some rest.

Signs of a Burnout

Burning the candle at both ends?
5 signs that you may be chronically fatigued because your body is on constant ALERT mode. If you are, here are some steps to reverse the effects.

Are you burning your candle at both ends?

I never believed or paid any attention to people who told me that I’d burn out. “Be careful, you’ll burn out at some stage if you carry on like this!” I thought I could go on forever working like the fury, fitting into other people’s schedules but never stopping to take time out for myself – what  waste of time I would think. If it wasn’t productive, I didn’t do it. Then I stopped and looked at myself. I had been scurrying for so long I had forgotten what I liked to do, what my favourite meal was, how to dress nicely when not at work, how to simply have fun for no reason, I was constantly tired and worried and anxious… does this sound familiar?

What are the signs of a burnout?

An obvious one. Even though you’ve had 6+ hours sleep. You become chronically fatigued even if you have a lie-in or two lie-ins because your body is saturated with free radicals and toxins caused by stress. Your body is unable to let the energy flow freely or the nutrients to be digested properly because your system is on constant ALERT mode.

wellness harrogate

Short attention span

You are struggling to concentrate on your work. Your mind flits constantly and is easily distracted. Could be too much caffeine or the hangover, but your fatigued mind needs a proper rest – that does not include flicking through social media for an hour!

Are you constantly pushing yourself to do, do, do because you haven’t achieved what you wanted in life and think that working hard is the answer?

wellness harrogate

Emotionally exhausted

Are you feeling empty. Do you feel sad or even depressed? Are you short-tempered when you don’t mean to be. You are drained. Are you retreating into your turtle shell. Can’t face the world?

Low self-esteem

Putting others first. Don’t do nice things for yourself because you don’t think you deserve them. Constantly saying negative things to yourself. You are literally dragging yourself down.

What to do to avoid a crash and burn

Give yourself some love

You need to start respecting yourself and give yourself a break. Recognise your accomplishments. Work smart not hard.

wellness harrogate

Try meditation, yoga, breathing classes – release the stress that is clogging up your body. Let it out through exercise, cut back the hours you work, stop, you will be more productive and less stressed!

Me time – chillax

animal cat face close up felineIt may sound obvious but try to cut back on work relax on a regular basis. Your mind and body need to refuel.

Keep a diary of how you are feeling so you can monitor if you are feeling more in charge of yourself again or if you are still experiencing fatigue and anxiety – then it’s time to get some therapy from a professional. It is worth it, because you are worth it.

Create positive daily rituals

A nice slow wake-up before the chaos of the day. If you are not so tired you can get up a little earlier, fit in a little stretch, 10 minutes quirt time to get your head sorted (or stroke the cat or dog), a yummy breakfast, long shower, wear something nice.

Take a walk at lunch, meet up with friends instead of working late, have a nice bath or go for a foot massage. Say nice things to yourself. Create an easy achievement list and a wish list of some treats you can do just because you want to! Repeat 3-5 positive affirmations (things you are grateful for and positive things about yourself) when you get up and before going to sleep. Try aromatherapy with a burner in your room or crystal healing grids… get creative!

Act now before it is too late

Don’t ignore your tired state, it will not simply go away. If you leave it too late your fatigued and over-stressed body will develop other ailments and long-lasting problem or damage. A holiday cannot sort this out, it will simply be a time for your body to let the illnesses in instead of a time to be enjoyed. You need a little holiday time everyday. You need to get the work life balance right. Instate the law of Kintalini into your personal life. Get your chi flowing and develop a more positive attitude about yourself. You don’t have to be perfect. Being happy is much better and more satisfying!

Third Time Lucky

Third Time Lucky
A fateful encounter that lead to an introduction to a powerful range of products. Because you are unlikely to find the Forever Aloe Vera products on the high street, allow me to introduce you to the Medicine Plant…

I had already been around the stalls twice at the Health and Healing Festival, but something compelled me to go around a third time: I was convinced I had missed something important and that it would reveal itself to me the third time I went around.

Tempted as I was to see if I actually had an aura or to have the magical tarot cards tell me if I was going to be rich and famous (and if so how long did I have to wait…) my instinct was not truly drawn to these prophetic stalls. In fact, the only stall I stopped at was a very unassuming one that I really was not interested in. It just had a simple display of Aloe Vera products. Without even realising it, I had stopped at perhaps the only stall at the whole fair that was not affiliated with the words “spiritual” or “celestial” in any way. Perhaps that is why it stood out from the crowd. It was down-to-earth.

I had already used Aloe in the past either as a refreshing drink or a soothing gel, so I was not expecting anything new to jump out at me. But this range was extraordinary, they offered aloe vera as a drink gel, food supplement sachets and pills, shaving foam, lip balm, protective hair spray, eye cream, cleanser, beauty skincare products, and last but not least, veterinary preparations to help heal our furry friends. And the list goes on.

Forever aloe vera products

The lady running this hidden gem of a stall was Fiona Walmsley. She was friendly, open and instantly likeable. She had a familiarity about her I could not quite place. We chatted, exchanged details and promised to meet up. Still unsure as to whether that was the fateful stall I was meant to have discovered on my third and final sweep of the fair I left feeling satisfied and content.

Fiona Walmsley

A couple of weeks later I met with Fiona, she gave me some Aloe Vera products to sample and some literature on both the plant and the company she represents. Because you are unlikely to meet her or find the Forever Aloe Vera products on the high street, I shall introduce you to the power of the Medicine Plant and all that it can do for you and your loved ones (including pets) in a sequence of posts.

Although she did not proclaim any wizardy or magic, the journey she set me upon was full of the incredible and wondrous magic found only in dreams and wished for repeatedly in our prayers. Third time lucky indeed!

Aloe Vera – Mother Nature’s Gift

Mother Nature’s Gift

Up until the 19th century Aloe vera still one of the most popular over-the-counter remedies until it was pushed into the darkness by conventional medicines, and herbal medicine spiralled in decline. Thanks to recent research and case studies, Aloe is back in its full glory

When we find something amazing, human tendency is to either hide it away to covet it just for ourselves or to shout it from the roof tops and share its beauty so that all may reap its rewards. Aloe Vera has been the victim of both. So let’s get to the root of the matter and explore what has been dubbed the Medicine Plant.

Queen Nefertiti

A rich past

The aloe plant was left to wilt in the dark for many a decade after its initial heyday when it was used by the Egyptians in their renowned beauty regimes and in their mummification rituals. Right up until the 18th and 19th century it was still one of the most popular over-the-counter remedies until, more recently, it was pushed into the darkness by conventional medicines, i.e. more “orthodox” options. Mainstream pill-popping took over as herbal medicine spiralled in decline.

But did Aloe really ever go? It uses are so vast and the people who use it are so diverse, there was no chance of keeping this wondrous plant out of the light for long. It never really disappeared… it is too powerful for that!

Weird and wonderful uses

1. To ward off evil
Aloe vera is used to give spiritual baths to block and ward off evil spirits. This method is  observed in many spiritual belief systems across the world. The common consensus is that Aloe vera has the ability to block evil spirits.

2. To prolong beauty
This use should come as no surprise no wonder it is so powerful considering the ancient civilization of Egypt used it to preserves the integrity of the physical body during life and death. It keeps the skin looking fresh for the living. It contains properties that maintains the collagen of the skin and prevents the elasticity from becoming loose. It was one of the ingredients in embalming fluid.

3. Re-calibrate our frequency system
Thank to its electrolytic properties it helps the cells that are experiencing blockages or that are not communicating with each other. This is because the plant contains electrolyte minerals, such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and sodium, which support important physiological processes resulting from our nervous and cardiac systems.

aloe vera

Aside from its use in spiritual and mummification rituals, there are real facts to support this miracle plant’s health benefits: (source PubMed)

  1. Helps Constipation
  2. Helps Burns, Scars, Cuts and Hair
  3. Has Anti-Inflammatory Properties
  4. Improves Digestion and Detoxifies the Body
  5. Aloe Vera is Anti-bacterial, Anti-septic, Anti-fungal and Anti-viral
  6. Aloe Vera is an Adaptogen
  7. Helps the Immune System
  8. Improves Circulation and Cardiovascular Health
  9. Protects the Kidneys
  10. Helps against Diabetes
  11. Helps with Weight Loss
  12. Helps With Candida Overgrowth
  13. Slows the Growth of Cancer Tumors
  14. Increases Energy Levels
  15. Helps against Ulcers, Crohn’s Disease and IBS (Irritable Bowel Sydrome)

Yes it is a long list! And it is not exhaustive.  Thanks to recent research and case studies, Aloe is back in its full glory; it is even growing in importance in the mainstream medical branch with its inclusion in a CAM report, which examines alternative and complementary medicine and determines how providers of such therapies and remedies, such as herbal medicine, can be regulated.

The Aloe plant has a rich and varied past, and I believe it is set to have an equally fruitful future.

The 4 Doctors of Wellness

The doctors for happiness, movement, diet and quiet all work together to provide a healthy recipe for balanced vitality and good health. Try a dose.

The Only 4 Doctors You Will Ever Need

courtesy of

Graham Whitehead Health

First and foremost, I cannot take the credit for this concept and system, but through my training with the CHEK (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) Institute I have applied it to my own life and I have coached numerous clients through the 4-step process.

Dr Happiness

Wellness - Dr HappinessWhat makes you happy? What makes you feel good? What gives you a sense of purpose? What are you passionate about? What would be your chosen career?

These are some of the questions you can ask yourself. Your Dr Happy is always there to lead us to a life that fulfils our individual wants and needs. Furthermore, it can advise us if we are leading a life that does not maintain our core values and if this appears to be the case then every facet of our life can become a burden.

Dr Diet

We all know diet is a key part of our health and wellbeing. The quality of our food and drink we consume will affect our energy levels, emotions, physical health, mental clarity, productivity, performance, and overall health.

Wellness - Dr DietThe interesting thing about Dr Diet is the fact that what we think is healthy isn’t and what we think isn’t healthy is. There is an awful lot of confusion out there regarding our perceptions of healthy foods. What I can tell you is that everyone’s nutritional demands will vary.

Time and time again when working with people individually I have found that when the diet is deficient there simply is not enough energy or clarity of mind to initiate and sustain the changes needed for self-healing.

Dr Quiet

Dr Quiet is the chief physician making it the most important of the 4 Doctor.

Dr Quiet is responsible for energy management and recovery. One of the most common Meditation - Dr Quietissues with Dr Quiet is sleep. People simply aren’t getting enough sleep. You can make some big improvements in your health if you get adequate amounts of sleep. I recommend getting around 8 hours of sleep per night. Timing is also crucial because our body’s circadian rhythms are related to the rising and falling off the sun. 10:00pm is an optimal time to go to sleep by as the time from
10pm – 2am is the stage in our sleep of physical repair and 2 am – 6 am is dedicated to cognitive and mental repair.

Dr Movement

Dr Movement is related to our exercise. Do you work out? Or do you work in? Working in is the body accumulating energy through activities such as yoga, tai chi, stretching, massage etc. Working out is the body expending energy, such as cycling, lifting weights, running, or playing sports.Wellness - Dr Movement

Quite often people do not really have the energy to work out because their body is short of resources and is not getting enough Dr Quiet, Dr Diet, and Dr Happy. When the 3 Doctors mentioned are balanced we can begin to exercise in a way where the body receives a positive response from exercise. Without the right amount of movement, we suffer not only physically but mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

I am sure you can begin to see how the 4 Doctors integrate with one another. Day in and day out I see how people’s daily challenges in life, occupation, relationships, and ambitions are heavily related to imbalances in their 4 Doctors. It is vital for health and wellbeing that the 4 Doctors are balanced.

Be your own doctor – the only prescriptions you’ll be writing are the ones that come naturally or free: happiness, exercise, good food and meditation.

Benefits of Meditation

Meditation isn’t just for tree-huggers and hippies, it is for anyone who seeks peace of mind, boundless energy and reuced anxiety… and much, much more. Read on to find out how you can add some simple techniques to your your everyday routine.

The Benefits of Meditation & Why You Should Meditate

courtesy of

Graham Whitehead Health

Meditation is something I have been doing and coaching people regularly for 4 years now, so today I wanted to share some of the benefits with you.

Benefits of meditation
You can meditate anywhere

A lot of people consider it to be airy-fairy hocus pocus for long-haired hippies that has no benefit. What I can tell you is that it was good enough for Arnold Schwarzenegger who meditates regularly (the Meditator not Terminator!).

Furthermore, take a look at some of the most successful business people in the world. In the Book, Tool of Titans by Tim Ferris he interviews and analyses world-class performers, icons, and billionaires. 80% OF THE PEOPLE INTERVIEWED IN THIS BOOK WERE REGULAR MEDITATORS.

What are the benefits?

  • Meditation improves sleep
  • Meditation reduces levels of stress hormone (cortisol)
  • Meditation improves energy levels
  • Meditation helps you think clearer to help identify your vision
  • Meditation is great for weight/fat loss due to the fact that you become more insulin sensitive and your level of stress hormones reduce
  • Meditation is a great anti-ageing practice
  • Prevents you from making poor decisions
  • Improves your self-awareness
  • Increases oxygen intake

Benefits of meditation
Meditation is for everyone

There are many ways to meditate but you can choose to start off with this basic approach below. Once you have done this a number of times you may alter or find a more effective method that works best for YOU.

  • Begin with 10 minutes twice a day, but know the more often you do it the more benefit you will get.
  • Download some relaxing music, a guided meditation from YouTube or you use any of the meditation apps or podcasts. Some people don’t need any music. You are better downloading the music or guided meditation so you do not get disturbed while meditating. Ensure your phone is on airplane mode.
  • Lying down or sit up straight while listening to peaceful music or guided meditation take a deep diaphragmatic breath in as your belly expands, and then exhale out through the mouth. Repeat this for 10 minutes.

Check out a video from Graham Whitehead to ensure you are breathing the correct way:

Breathing Technique Video  from Graham Whitehead who also recommends checking out the book ‘Meditation for Dummies’ as it offers you some simple and easily applicable practices to begin with.

Take a break from life’s chaos, you’ll soon reap the benefits and never want to stop!
